Upgrade your cell phone with AT&T Next Up Anytime

AT&T Next Up Anytime is new. It costs an extra $10 per month and allows you to upgrade early without worrying about the remaining balance of your installment plan. And every year, or once you’ve paid off one-third of your phone’s cost, you will be eligible for our smartphone deals (maximum three upgrades in a 12-month period). Learn more about AT&T Next Up Anytime.

AT&T Next Up Anytime replaces AT&T Next Up

AT&T Next Up Anytime is replacing AT&T Next Up. Next Up allows upgrades after 50% of the phone is paid off and costs an extra $6 per month. In contrast, Next Up Anytime allows upgrades after one installment payment has been made and costs $10 per month.

If you have AT&T Next Up, you can keep it until you’re ready to upgrade your phone, but it will no longer be available when you purchase or upgrade to a new phone. When you upgrade to your new phone, AT&T Next Up Anytime will be the early upgrade option.

Check your upgrade eligibility

If you’re an AT&T customer, you can check your upgrade eligibility with the myAT&T app.

  1. The first step is to download the free myAT&T app onto your phone. You can download the app from the major app stores or text “myATT” to 556699 and receive a download link.3
  2. On the home screen in the “My Wireless Devices” section, select “Manage device and usage”. From there, you’ll be able to “View upgrade status” and proceed to “Turn in & upgrade”, if you’d like.
  3. Follow the prompts to choose a new device for your upgrade.
  4. Proceed to cart and complete the checkout process to submit your order.

Tips for trading in your old iPhone

You can initiate a trade-in by visiting the AT&T trade-in program site.

We check each smartphone to make sure it’s eligible to turn in. If it is, we’ll forgive the balance of that phone’s installment plan. If your phone isn’t in good condition, we’ll charge you the difference between the remaining installment balance and the current value of your returned phone. Learn trade-in program tips and tricks for a smooth upgrade process.

Remember, if you find you can’t trade in your old smartphone, you still have options. Learn next steps if you’re ineligible for a trade-in.

Katherine’s recommendations

As a rule, I don’t usually jump to upgrade my phone when a new smartphone comes out, but after seeing the new features, like the customizable action button and Apple Intelligence, as well as the new color choices in the iPhone 16 lineup, I’m excited to upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro. You might check out the iPhone 16 lineup and see if the new features appeal to you. If you find you don’t need them, there are great deals available on older model iPhones too.

If you do want to upgrade your phone, you’ll want to check your upgrade eligibility. I checked mine in the myAT&T app. I have AT&T Next Up, and since I’ve made 22 of 36 payments, which is more than 50%, I’m eligible to upgrade to the new iPhone 16. When I do, I’ll switch to Next Up Anytime, because it’s worth it to me to pay an extra $10 per month to gain the flexibility to upgrade at any time (after making the first payment on my new phone).

The best part is, I can get a great deal on the new iPhone 16 Pro. That’s a win-win!
