7 ways to show your dad you care with only your tech and your time

Father’s Day is approaching fast. While many of us are shopping for gifts, remember, you can also show the dad in your life that you care without spending a dime. Showing your appreciation is a gift that’s meaningful, and it won’t break your bank. With this in mind, we’re sharing ideas for some simple ways to show him you care that use only your tech and your time.

Let him have the remote

If your family competes for the remote, let dad have it for the day. Give him dibs on the TV remote so he can binge that series he likes and relax on the couch. Keep him company and watch it with him. You can even go one step further and program the remote for him.

Make a playlist with all his favorite music

Creating a playlist for your dad is a thoughtful, personal way to show him you care. Take all his favorite songs and compile them into a playlist he can listen to in the car, while working out, or anytime he wants. Make sure to include throwback songs from his high school era too.

Change his desktop picture

Replace the background on your dad’s technology the night before Father’s Day with a family picture or his favorite photo of you. That way, when he opens up his computer, tablet or smartphone for the day, he will be reminded of how much you care. This can be a simple surprise that makes him smile for days to come, long after Father’s Day is over.

Create a video or slideshow

With all the free apps out there these days, it is easy to create a video that has all the best home movies and pictures in one place. You can add text and music in the background. For bonus points, you could capture video of family members sharing why they think he’s great, a favorite memory with him or something meaningful to him.

Watch his favorite movie with him

Let’s be real. Your dad’s favorite movie is probably different than yours, but, for Father’s Day, you can let him pick the movie, then stay to watch it with him. Pop some popcorn and get together all his favorite drinks, snacks and candy. If the weather is nice, you can set it up outside.  This article is a great guide for preparing any outdoor movie night.

Connect with him through his smartwatch

Smartwatches and wearables allow you to connect with other people. Set up the sharing feature on your watch and share your fitness activity with your dad. When you share your activity, you can compete and encourage each other to reach fitness goals. This can help to motivate both of you, and it is a fun way to stay connected throughout the day.

Organize his cords and chargers

Most dads have lots of cords, cables and chargers. It’s easy to throw them all in a drawer, but it’s hard to keep them from getting tangled and mixed up. Take the time to organize all of your dad’s cords for him. If you don’t want to buy a cable organizer, color code cords with items like twist ties stickers and tape.

Binder clips are a good way to keep cords off the ground and separate from each other so they don’t get tangled. Even sticking a bread clip around each cord can help eliminate confusion. A divided storage box is a great way to store cords and chargers you don’t need every day. It keeps them separate and easy to find. This gift is practical, useful and can be done with items you already have around the house.

Ultimately, one of the best Father’s Day gifts you can give is your time and attention. Spend as much time with your dad as you can, and he will remember the thought and effort.  We hope these tips will help make your Father’s Day special for both of you. Isn’t technology great?
